We are excited to offer limited browsing at the Gale Free!

Our building remains closed for drop in visits at this time. We are offering our library services by appointment only. Please see ways to visit and use the library below.

Guidelines for visiting

  • Please arrive promptly; a staff member will greet you at the front door.
  • Per the governor's order, a mask covering both your nose and mouth is required for patrons 3 & up at all times while in the building; you will be asked to use hand sanitizer upon arrival.
  • Observe social distancing rules while visiting us.
  • If you are feeling unwell, please cancel your appointment and reschedule your visit for another time.
  • Bathrooms and water fountains are unavailable for use at this time, please plan accordingly. 

Appointments for reading room browsing are for 1 PERSON at a time only. There are two appointments per time block available. A husband/wife or parent/child or person/caregiver combo etc. counts as TWO people and would need to make TWO appointments.

If you need assistance entering the building (inability to use stairs, etc.) please let staff know ahead of time so we can accommodate you during your visit. Staff will be available during your visit, should you need assistance.


There are three ways to visit and browse our collection right now.

1. Reading room limited title browsing

Reserve a time to visit & browse our new adult items! The reading room has been converted to a mini borwse collection, containing all new adult fiction, non-fiction, large print & book on CD titles. We also have small curated/seasonal collections of DVD's, young adult titles, graphic novels & more. If you wish to browse the children's collection, a separate appointment needs to be made.
 

2. Children's room browsing

Visits to the Children's Room are limited to one family or pod of 6 people or less at a time. Please note that toys & puzzles will not be available for use. This booking gives you full access to the children's room only. Young adult books & graphic novels have been moved to this room during limited browsing times, so if older kids are visiting with their family/group they will have titles to browse as well. Adult browsing will need a separate appointment.
 

3. Young Adult limited title browsing

Come browse all the new young adult titles, as well as some popular favorites from our young adult collection. Anyone aged 13 and up can make an appointment to come browse this collection of titles. Currently this collection is housed in the children's room, so if you wish to browse other collections like adult books or DVD's you will need an appointment for reading room browsing.
 


All items will be available for self checkout, so please remember to bring your library card!

Grab & Go Pick-up is scheduled by using our online form. Choose a day & time to pick up your requested materials, your bagged items will be available for you to grab then.

 HOW TO REQUEST ITEMS FOR GRAB & GO PICKUP

 

1. PLACE A HOLD(S) IN THE CATALOG

You are going to start by searching for materials in the online catalog.

**Interlibrary deliveries have resumed, so feel free to request items as you normally would!**

Not sure what you want? we have a form for that! 

Adults can fill out this form for curated adult fiction and non-fiction titles.

Young Adult can fill out this form & kids can fill out this form for genre specific or even surprise me! options.


2. WAIT TO BE NOTIFIED THAT YOUR HOLD(S) ARE READY TO BE PICKED UP

When your requests are ready for pickup, you will receive an automatic notification.

You will receive a separate notice for each item. Keep in mind that all items may not be available for pickup at the same time. Items ready for pickup will be held for one week only.

3. SCHEDULE A PICK-UP WINDOW 

Slots for the Grab & Go pick-up windows will be scheduled using our online scheduling system. CLICK HERE to sign up for a pickup window. Choose a day & time range to pick up your requested materials. Your bagged items will be available for you to grab.

We are currently scheduling grab and go pickup during the following time windows:

Monday - Friday   

10:00am - 12:00pm  /   2:00pm - 4:00pm

Thursday

 10:00am - 12:00pm  /  2:00pm - 4:00pm   /  5:00pm - 7:00pm

Saturday

9:00am - 11:00am

The Holden Senior Center has offered to provide delivery service of library items to Holden seniors. If you would like to use this service, please contact Rachel Mimms at (508) 210-5560 ext. 4194 to arrange delivery

*As stated above in step two, make sure and WAIT for notification that your holds are ready for pickup before submitting a form for a pickup slot.*

4. GET YOUR MATERIALS!

Masks and social distancing are required to enter. The grab and go pick-up area will be located in the old front entrance, located on the Highland Street side of the building. Place your returns into the designated container just outside the entry door.

ONLY 2 PEOPLE MAY BE IN THE PICK-UP AREA AT ANY ONE TIME.

Please use the hand sanitizer which will be made available, and then continue into the building to the Grab & Go area.

All bags will be labeled and placed in alphabetical order by last name. Please be mindful by double checking your name and to collect only your bags. We will make every effort to include other information (first name & last four digits of phone number) for you to identify your bag. Please do not touch anyone else’s bagged order.

A doorbell is available for you to ask staff for assistance.


STILL NEED ASSISTANCE? NO PROBLEM!

Curbside Services are still available for those who need physical assistance.

  • Use our new online appointment scheduling, just remember to include your need for assistance.
  • Or request appointments by email and phone.
  • Please let us know if someone other than yourself will be picking up your item.

Our Curbside Pickup will no longer operate out of the shed but will be at our main entrance. We ask that you remain in your car and wait for staff to approach you. Staff may ask to see some form of I.D. (library card, drivers license, passport, or school ID) and will take your bagged returns at this time as well.

Staff will retrieve your bagged pickup order and will hand it to you or place it into your trunk, whichever you prefer. If you have labeled bags of returns in your trunk as well, staff will take those at this time and place them into the designated return bins.

As much as we miss you!! We ask that you not socialize with library staff or other patrons waiting in our curbside pickup area. We want to provide a safe pickup/ return of materials for everyone. This happens through quick interactions and timely flow of services.


Returns in the time of COVID

Return bins will be available outside the Library’s entrances:

Monday & Friday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:30 am - 7:30 pm

Saturday 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

Overnight return drops will be open:

4 pm Monday to Tuesday 9:30 am

4 pm Thursday to Friday 9:30 am

All returns must quarantine for at least 72 hours before check-in. All overdue fines will be cleared. If bins are full, please do not leave items outside of bins.

*Library & returns drops will be closed on State and Federal Holidays*

PLEASE NOTE: Items being returned to these drop boxes do not need to be bagged. Only items being handled by staff during Curbside Pickup must be returned in bags.
